Prayer Warriors,
Before we ever stepped foot into the first Amarakaeri village nearly a year and a half ago, our team had an Exit Strategy. That is to say that we knew the end we aimed for and that end certainly included our departure; lest we stay forever and create a dependency or a church led by us rather than the indigenous believers. After witnessing the Lord pursuing His Bride to these remote villages and laboring to sanctify and mature the born again disciples, we now embark on what will most likely be our final trip with the Harakmbut nation before engaging another unreached people group.
Chris, Marcello and I will leave in the morning to continue teaching our discipleship track to the five Hut Churches located among four Amarakaeri villages in the Madre de Dios River. We ask for your prayers. That God will burden these Christians' hearts with conviction of the sin that continues to linger and with a bold passion to proclaim the Gospel of Grace to their families and even other indigenous groups spread throughout this jungle. That the Churches will be faithful and consistent in gathering together in order to offer up songs and prayers of worship to the All-Worthy Father. That these Fellowships will be Spirit-led and thus not negatively affected in any way when our team leaves. That we will be blessed with a joyous time with our friends that have become such a large part of our lives.
Recently, a Brother from my home church shared a verse with me that had spoken to him. Since then, this word of God has served to spur me on in this task in a truly challenging way. I now lend this challenge to you while also asking that you pray this verse for our team throughout this 6-week trip.
"But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, and fulfill your ministry." --2 Timothy 4:5
Another petition for prayer is for more workers to step-up and join this mission. I just got back from a mission conference in Argentina where I had the opportunity to recruit for our team. Four young people showed much interest and are currently praying about joining the Xtreme Team next winter. Oh how overwhelming is the need for more Christians to spend themselves in proclaiming the Good News! Remember Jesus' instruction of Luke 10:2, and pray this with us.
Again, your partnership in the Gospel from the first day until now has been nothing less than fully devoted and completely valuable; and I am daily grateful for you all.
Your fellow Ragamuffin Pilgrim,
Jonathan
